Acne Prevention and Treatment During Pregnancy

Article by Patrick Sinim F.

When women conceived, their body hormones changed. These hormones changed normally caused the breakouts of acne, which can rather unpleasant at times. These breakouts of acne can be through the entire pregnancy or some can experienced these breakouts during their various stages of their pregnancy.

To prevent, not eliminated, the breakout of acne, care must be taken by these ladies. The number one culprit is the food intake.

“Junk” food and microwave oven cooked should be avoided. This is to reduce the change in the body hormone of pregnant women.

In a broad sense, “junk” food is rather difficult to identify. It is difficult to identify “junk” food but as a thumb of rule, if you crave for some potato, get some stewed or boiled potato and not reach out for pack of potato chips canister. Haggling for some beef patties? Order the beef steak.

Feel thirsty? Plain water is the most natural fluid to quench the taste and does good for the body. In fact, the good old plain is the best biological cleanser for the human body.

How about microwave oven cooked food? It was known that the human body hormone production is reduced and altered by the consumption of microwave oven cooked food.

On this ground, pregnant women are to avoid is microwave oven cooked food. This is also to prevent the consumption of unhealthy food for it is better to have food cooked naturally. Moreover, eating food cooked naturally does more good to the baby.

The advent of microwave ovens had lead many to have their food conveniently and fast. This is definitely not good for pregnant women.

Just a short note on food cooked by microwave ovens.

Microwave ovens uses microwaves, like the name suggested; which are electromagnetic energy which interacted with the molecules, by changing the polarity from positive to negative millions of times per second in the food.

These caused the molecules’ polarity to rotate, hence, creating the “friction” to produce heat to the food. Now, this type of unconventional heating caused substantial damage to the food by tearing apart or forcefully deforming them molecularly.

A Swiss study was done with eight volunteers, who had foods cooked in microwave ovens. The study revealed that, amongst others, the hemoglobin levels had decreased and more alarming, white cell levels and cholesterol levels had increased. This study concluded that consumption of food cooked in microwave ovens caused the blood chemistry to change and could had cancerous effects on the blood.

Therefore, microwave food had these unnatural molecules inevitably. Consumption of these microwave oven cooked food could cause the degeneration and deterioration in the human biological systems.

How about personal hygiene and cleanliness? These are also important in the prevention of acne breakout. Things like the frequent changes of pillow covers, leaning of combs and air brushes should be regularly cleaned. Used a mild face wash and you can wash to feel refresh. Look at the active ingredient on the face wash.

In the event of a more serious acne outbreak, consulting a skin care professional or a dermatologist is recommended. A professional advice on acne treatment for pregnant women should also take into account the health of the unborn child. Consult your dermatologist if anything had to be taken orally.

Another area of acne treatment is using 100% herbal acne treatment. There are many in the market today and it is prudent to check the claims thoroughly before embarking on the treatment.

One commonly and relatively safe acne treatment is benzoyl peroxide jelly or gel. Benzoyl peroxide-based products are commonly found in most over-the-counter acne treatment products. Benzoyl peroxide works by introducing oxygen into those pores which contained acne-causing bacteria.

These bacteria cannot live in oxygen-rich or aerobic environment. By doing so, these bacteria would be killed and thus effectively reducing the number of breakouts. When used following the prescription, benzoyl peroxide also unclogs pores and heals pimples.

Again, read the label on the product thoroughly to check for any other chemical. You may want to start with the mild strength first. Check with your dermatologist if in doubt.

The possible side-effects of using benzoyl peroxide-based products are dryness and flaking. Other side effects may be redness and a slight burning sensation.

In the unlikely event that you just cannot find an acne treatment that is suitable, it is better to have better personal hygiene and see the acne goes out by itself.

After all, the health of your unborn child is the most important and secondly, your complexion is a distant second.

All is not lost even you had your baby. For some, these acne problems during pregnancy would go away after birth. For some, it may not be the case but you can seek your dermatologist advice again, this time, on safer ground.
